Timex Triple Play | VARIO
A look at 3 modern Timex watches that capture the DNA of their previous iterations but with an updated modern take.
First up is the the Cali-Marlin automatic salmon dial paired with a Vario crazy horse bund strap. Timex debuted the Marlin in the 60’s but through the decades that followed up until the release of the Cali-Marlin, the Marlin really wasn’t as sought after as other Timex watches. But the Cali-Marlin changed that two years ago with its release. Now, the Marlin models are one of Timex’s top sellers and come in two color options(Cali-Marlin), both 40mm. The salmon colored Cali-Marlin comes in a high polished case paired with a beautiful brown OEM leather strap, and comes in a black dial that’s housed in a rose gold case and black leather strap. Definitely a must have for the hardcore Timex collector.
Next up is the MK-1 Chronograph in Rose-gold. The MK-1 debuted in 1982 for Timex then reintroduced as part of their archive series in 2016. The one pictured was released in 2018. Again, paired up with a Vario Harris tweed strap showing the versatility of the watch. The original strap of the watch is a brown leather strap with red stitching. The original strap does look amazing on the MK-1, but the look of the watch gets taken to the next level with the Harris Tweed from Vario. What I love most of the MK-1, is how you can dress it up or down, depending on the situation.
Last but not least, is one of my favorite reissues from Timex in collaboration with Todd Snyder. The Modern Art is a reissue of the 1974 Timex Sprite models, I think the original from 1974 was only available in Europe. But nonetheless, leave it up to Timex/Todd Snyder to deliver a true and stunning reissue. The bold red dial is such a looker and the the grey and black markers in a circular pattern remind me of a pepperoni pizza, lol, I digress, but it’s just that, the fact that I can poke fun at the watch and still love it, encompasses the true love of this watch collecting hobby, at least in my opinion! The Modern Art has been paired with a grey textured Italian leather strap from Vario and I’m completely in love with the look.
Til next time my friends. Be well, and stay safe!
